Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) Information
At Giant Steps Nursery we are committed to providing an inclusive environment where every child can thrive and reach their full potential. We recognise that all children develop at their own pace and may require different levels of support at various stages.
Our dedicated team works closely with families and professionals to ensure that all children's individual needs are understood, respected and supported.
How will the setting help my child to settle?
We understand that starting nursery is a big step for both children and families.
Before your child joins us, we offer:
A settling in period tailored to your child's needs.
A key person who builds a trusting relationship with your child and family.
Opportunities for you to share detailed information about your child's interests, routines and any additional needs.
Our calm, nurturing approach helps children feel safe and secure as they get to know our environment and staff.
Who can I contact for further information within the setting?
Our Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo):
Barbara Mayne can be contacted at:

You are also welcome to speak with your child's Key Person at any time.
Our nursery is designed to be as inclusive and accessible as possible.
Resources are stored at child height to promote independence.
We regularly review our environment and make reasonable adjustments where needed.
How will I be involved in my child's learning and overall wellbeing?
We value parents as partners in their child's learning journey. You will be:
Invited to regular meetings to review progress and update support plans.
Provided with learning journals and feedback through our online communication platform.
Encouraged to share your insights, strategies, and goals for your child.
We believe that working together creates the best outcomes for children.
What is the settings approach to supporting different children's needs and how will that help my child?
We believe that every child is unique. Our approach focuses on:
Early Identification of additional needs through regular observations and assessments.
Individual support plans that set achievable targets, reviewed in partnership with parents.
Adaptations to routines, activities and environments to ensure all children can participate and learn at their own pace.
We follow the Graduated Approach-Assess, Plan, Do, Review to continuously monitor and respond to each child's progress.
